IT'S TIME FOR
"RISK WATCH"
IN HALTON HILLS!

An Injury Prevention Program for Elementary School-Aged Children!

Risk Watch is a trademark of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Quincy, Massachusetts.

Why Risk Watch?
"Injuries are the leading threat to the health of Canada's children. Childhood deaths resulting from injury equal the number of deaths due to cancer, infectious diseases, birth defects and diseases of the respiratory and nervous system combined."
Canadian Hospitals Injury Reporting and Prevention Program

With proper education, children can learn to be safer and prevent injuries.

Risk Watch gives children the skills and knowledge they need to recognize and avoid risks.

How is the program delivered?
Risk Watch teachers and families help children promote, practice, and apply learned skills to make safe choices.

The Risk Watch program enhances the Health & Safety curriculum as outlined by provincial education standards.

The curriculum offers many opportunities for participation by Risk Watch Coalition Partners who help reinforce classroom lessons with additional information and a "real world" perspective.

What are the components of Risk Watch?

Who supports the Risk Watch Program?
The Halton Hills Injury Prevention Committee's "Risk Watch Coalition" is a partnership of community safety advocates.

Our mandate is to provide elementary school children, their teachers, and families with the educational resources needed to reduce preventable injuries.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council, with the assistance of the National Fire Protection Association, has aided in the program's development.

The program has been successfully piloted in Halton Hills (St. Francis of Assisi - September 1999).

It is the goal of the Coalition to implement the Risk Watch Program in all schools throughout Halton Hills!

How is the program funded?
Risk Watch is a community funded program that relies on the generosity of corporate partners and community citizens. Major funding for the Halton Hills Risk Watch Program has been provided by:

- Ray Johnson & Associates Inc. (the Co-Operators)

- Halton Credit Union

- Grant Baker's Silvercreek Service Centre (Sunys/Cango)

- Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council

- National Fire Protection Association
